Welcome to the Karaite Judaism website. This is the oldest surviving branch of Judaism. Karaites believe in the Hebrew scriptures (Miqra) and most dismiss the authority of what the Rabbinites call the Oral Law. There are some Karaites who hold to what is called Sevel HaYerushah (Yoke of Inheritence), which is mainly community traditions such as those of the Europeans and Egyptian Karaites. However, all Karaites have a take it or leave it stance when it comes to tradition.
What unites Karaites is their position of contextualism concerning the Hebrew Scriptures, holding only the Hebrew Scripture as Divine Authority, and adhereing to the calendar as laid out in the Hebrew Scripture which is based upon the Aviv and new moon sightings.
